DEVELOPMENT SERVICES DEPARTMENT - DOING BUSINESS IN KISSIMMEE

Whether starting a business for the first time, relocating an existing business, or just maintaining a business--working in the City of Kissimmee should always be an stress free and pleasant experience.  The City has several programs in place that cater to businesses both large and small. 

THE ENTERPRISE ZONE

Established through a joint effort between the City and Osceola County in 2004, the Enterprise Zone provides numerous financial incentives to large and small businesses locating within the area of the City outlined as the Enterprise Zone (see map below).  These incentives include:

  • Jobs Tax Credit: Sales and use tax credit for 20% - 30% of wages paid to new employees who reside within the zone - or - Corporate income tax credit for 15% - 20% of wages paid to new employees residing in the zone
  • Business Equipment Sales Tax Refund: Refund of sales tax paid on purchase of certain business properties
  • Building Materials Sales Tax Refund: Refund for sales tax paid on purchase of building materials used to rehabilitate real property
  • Property Tax Credit: New or expanded businesses are allowed credit against Florida Corporate income tax equal to 96% of ad valorem taxes paid on new or improved property
  • Sales Tax Exemption for Electrical Energy: 50% sales tax exemption on the purchase of electrical energy, if the municipality has reduced the municipal utility tax by at least 50%
  • Community Contribution Tax Credit: Allows businesses a 50% credit on Florida Corporate income tax, insurance premium tax or sales tax refund for donations made to local community development projects

COMMUNITY REDEVELOPMENT AGENCY (CRA)

The Community Redevelopment Agency acts as a business advocate within the downtown Kissimmee area, providing assistance to existing businesses and recruiting new businesses to the area.  They also provide technical support and financial incentives to businesses in the Community Redevelopment Area.  Visit the CRA's Web site for more information on specific programs offered.
