CITY OF KISSIMMEE COMMISSIONERS TO TOUR BURNHAM INSTITUTE
Kissimmee, Fla. (July 28, 2010)–The City of Kissimmee Commission will hear a special presentation from representatives of the new Sanford-Burnham Medical Research Institute at Lake Nona, during the City Commission meeting at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 3.
The Commissioners will follow up with a tour of the facility on Wednesday, August 4.
Elizabeth Gianini, vice president of governmental affairs for the Burnham Institute, will provide the Commission with an overview of the company, along with information about the research conducted in its laboratories. During the facility tour, the Commissioners will meet the scientists and learn firsthand about the institute’s operations.
The City hopes to gain a better understanding of how Burnham enhances Central Florida and how the two can form a partnership. The institute’s close proximity to Osceola County, coupled with the new UCF-Kissimmee Medical Services Business Incubator, provides a natural fit for cultivating a positive economic development synergy between the two organizations.
The UCF-Kissimmee Incubator is scheduled to open in early Fall 2010. This incubator will be located downtown in Kissimmee’s City Center with the ability to house up to 12 small businesses.
